True to its stated mission, Lowry Bros. Entertainment, LLC was founded on the principle that the making of a good film happens only as the result of a team of professionals working together towards the same artistic goals.
The company was founded by two brothers, Richard and Tor Lowry, as a means to produce and distribute quality films to the world market. Richard and Tor have been working together on films since 1986 when they produced their first film, ‘Hawk Jones’ when they were teenagers. ‘Hawk Jones’ was considered too politically incorrect for most distributors to pick up since it featured children smoking, shooting guns, driving cars hanging out in nightclubs. Eventually the movie was picked up by two distributors and the movie was even made it to the Cannes Film Festival.
Richard later directed several other films, one of which, ‘Jessica: A Ghost Story’ went on to become one of the most profitable distribution deals for one distributor, and is still earning positive reviews and income after being on the market for over 15 years.
In 1994, Tor wrote a screenplay for ‘Destination Mars,’ a 1950′s Sci-Fi spoof, that received rave reviews upon its release, from the likes of Leonard Maltin, who referred to it as the “best 1950′s Sci-Fi spoof ever made.” The renowned film critic, Harry Knowles enjoyed the film so much in 2001, that he kicked off his annual film festival in Austin, Texas, continuing an elaborate myth that had been created as a method of creating “hype” for the film. Later, he commented that the film was “the most talked about” of the festival.
